Unique Content, Content is King, if you have been online very long you have read or heard someone make that statement. I agree unique content is important, but if you just provide content with your perspective and through your experience it will be unique. So is it really just unique user generated content that is so important or is it something else?
I would like to submit to you today that it is not only unique content that is important but in my opinion, this is even more important. So what is it? Before we get to that, there is a fallacy, that unique content is what we all want. When in reality what it is that we are looking for is useful content. The more useful the content the more value that our readers, our friends and our followers will place upon it.
So much of what we read or find online is just simply regurgitated information and that’s not good. There are a lot of people that just simply copy and paste and make what somebody else has done their own. They are not providing content from their own perspective or from their vantage point of life. Tell a story or an experience you have, why because people can connect with someone better that they can relate with. You hear people say share a story, people like stories, but personally I don’t remember them telling me why. The reason why is right in front of us because when you tell a story or an experience that you’ve had people can relate, it also makes you more human or real to those who read it.
There is a misconception on line that people just want information, I disagree. We live in a world that is very connected in one sense, but on the other hand, we have a lot of disconnected people. What is it that causes social networking sites to be so popular? Why is twittering all the rage? Is it because it can be short and sweet and to the point or is it that people are looking to be connected? The same can be said of Facebook and actually of all the social networking sites, there is. People are looking to be connected, they want to belong, that’s a need that we all have as human beings.
So here’s my point be determined to make everything that you do online be a resource of useful content. Let me say it again it is not unique content we are looking for only, we are looking for useful content. The more useful the content the more valuable that content becomes, also the greater value that will be placed upon the person providing it. People who absorb the valuable content will in turn transfer value back. You have also heard it said that people do business with people they know like and trust. What better way to make that happen than to provide useful content.
